To celebrate Dying to Know Day which is on 8th August each year, a day designed to stimulate community to have all the much needed but seldom had conversations about death and dying, I will host a DEATH CAFE on my back deck in Ettalong Beach. We will eat the obligatory cake and drink tea, and talk about all things “deathy”. I’ll hold the space gently but also firmly, and we will avoid all conversation and debate around religion. The rest is there for the taking.
It’s always an amazing experience, once we open this taboo can of worms. People get to say things no-one else would hear them say. We seldom have those who are terminally ill, though I apparently now am, and we discourage those who are in the raw stages of grief. So if the words “death cafe” spikes your interest, it’s for you. Trust me. It’s vital. It’s enlivening. It’s insightful. And often “fun”. Jump in, it’s $20 and worth every penny.
See you there. Oh and it’s gluten free cake and diary free milk options.
And want to see a snippet of Death Cafe as filmed by SBS on my first ever Death Cafe back in 2012? Then watch this
